Idaho Drivers Urged to Renew Licenses as Deadline Approaches

BOISE, IDAHO – As the deadline for Idaho driver’s license renewal approaches, state officials are urging residents to take action as soon as possible to avoid any potential issues.

The Idaho Transportation Department has announced that all driver’s licenses that expired during the COVID-19 pandemic will need to be renewed by the end of this year. This includes licenses that expired in 2020 and those that will expire in 2021.

“We want to remind all Idaho drivers that it is important to renew your driver’s license in a timely manner to ensure that you are legally allowed to operate a motor vehicle in the state,” said ITD spokesperson, Sarah Johnson. “We understand that the pandemic has created challenges for many individuals, but we are working to make the renewal process as easy and convenient as possible.”

In order to renew a driver’s license in Idaho, residents will need to visit their local DMV office and bring along certain documentation, such as proof of identity, residency, and Social Security number. Additionally, drivers will need to pass a vision test and pay a renewal fee.

For those unable to visit a DMV office in person, the ITD has implemented an online renewal option for certain individuals. This includes those who are 21 or older and younger than 70, and who do not have any restrictions or suspensions on their license.

“We encourage eligible individuals to take advantage of the online renewal option to save time and avoid unnecessary trips to the DMV,” Johnson stated. “It’s a quick and easy process that can be completed from the comfort of your own home.”

In addition to traditional driver’s licenses, Idaho residents are also being reminded to renew any commercial driver’s licenses (CDL) that may have expired during the pandemic. CDL holders are required to pass a knowledge test and a skills test in order to renew their license.

“It’s important for all CDL holders to ensure that their license is up to date to avoid any disruptions to their livelihood,” Johnson emphasized. “We recommend scheduling an appointment with a CDL examiner well in advance to secure a time that works for you.”

As the deadline for driver’s license renewal looms, Idaho officials are working to assist residents in any way possible to ensure a smooth and efficient process. This includes extending certain deadlines and providing additional resources to those in need.

“We understand that renewing a driver’s license can be a daunting task for some individuals, which is why we are here to help every step of the way,” Johnson reassured. “Our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible for all Idaho drivers.”

For more information on how to renew a driver’s license in Idaho, residents are encouraged to visit the ITD website or contact their local DMV office. With the deadline fast approaching, it is crucial for all drivers to take action and renew their licenses in a timely manner. Failure to do so could result in fines, penalties, or even a suspension of driving privileges.

As Idaho residents gear up to renew their driver’s licenses, state officials are emphasizing the importance of staying up to date to ensure safe and legal driving on the road. By taking the necessary steps now, drivers can avoid any potential issues and continue to operate their vehicles with peace of mind.
