Lee County Driver’s License Office to Reopen with Enhanced Safety Measures

After months of closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lee County Driver’s License Office is set to reopen its doors to the public with enhanced safety measures in place. The office, located in downtown Fort Myers, will resume operations on Monday, July 6th, 2021, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

The decision to reopen the Lee County Driver’s License Office comes as a relief to many residents who have been unable to renew or obtain their driver’s licenses during the closure. With the phased reopening of businesses and government offices across the state, the Lee County office is taking proactive steps to ensure the safety and well-being of both staff and customers.

“We understand that many people rely on our services to drive legally and safely on the roads, and we are committed to providing a safe and efficient environment for them to do so,” said John Smith, the Director of the Lee County Driver’s License Office. “We have been working diligently to implement new safety protocols and procedures to protect everyone who walks through our doors.”

One of the key safety measures being implemented at the Lee County Driver’s License Office is the requirement for all customers and staff to wear face masks while inside the office. This is in line with the guidelines set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Florida Department of Health to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

In addition to mandatory mask-wearing, the office will also be limiting the number of customers allowed inside at any given time to ensure proper social distancing. Floor markers will be placed throughout the office to help guide customers on where to stand while waiting in line, and plexiglass barriers will be installed at service counters to provide an extra layer of protection.

“We want to make sure that our customers feel safe and comfortable when they visit our office,” said Smith. “By limiting the number of people inside and enforcing social distancing measures, we hope to minimize the risk of exposure to COVID-19 while still providing the essential services our community needs.”

To further enhance safety, the Lee County Driver’s License Office will also be implementing stringent cleaning and sanitization protocols. High-touch surfaces such as door handles, counters, and pens will be regularly disinfected throughout the day, and hand sanitizing stations will be available for both customers and staff to use.

“We take the health and safety of our customers and staff very seriously, and we want to assure everyone that we are taking every precaution necessary to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” said Smith. “We ask for everyone’s cooperation and understanding as we navigate these unprecedented times together.”

In addition to the safety measures being implemented, the Lee County Driver’s License Office will also be extending its hours of operation to accommodate the backlog of customers who have been waiting to renew or obtain their driver’s licenses. The office will now be open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with extended hours on select days to better serve the community.

“We understand that many people have been patiently waiting for our office to reopen so they can take care of their driver’s license needs,” said Smith. “We are committed to providing the best possible service to our customers, and we will do everything we can to make the process as smooth and efficient as possible.”

Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the Lee County Driver’s License Office remains dedicated to serving the needs of the community and ensuring that residents have access to the essential services they require. With enhanced safety measures in place, residents can now visit the office with peace of mind knowing that their health and well-being are a top priority.
