Document Number On Michigan Enhanced Driver’s License

Michigan Enhanced Driver’s License Now Includes Document Number for Added Security

LANSING, Mich. – Michigan residents can now rest assured that their enhanced driver’s license will provide even greater security thanks to a recent update. The Michigan Secretary of State’s Office announced that a document number will now be included on all enhanced driver’s licenses, adding an extra layer of protection against identity theft and fraud.

The new document number is a unique identifier that will be printed on the front of the enhanced driver’s license, making it easier for law enforcement officials and other authorities to verify the authenticity of the license. This additional security feature is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to combat identity theft and protect residents’ personal information.

“We are constantly looking for ways to enhance the security of our driver’s licenses and identification cards,” said Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson. “The inclusion of a document number on our enhanced driver’s licenses is just one more step we are taking to ensure the safety and security of our residents.”

The document number on the enhanced driver’s license is just one of several security features that have been added in recent years. Other security measures include facial recognition technology, which helps prevent identity theft and fraud by verifying an individual’s identity based on their facial features.

“We are always looking for ways to stay one step ahead of the criminals who seek to exploit our identity documents,” said Benson. “By adding the document number to our enhanced driver’s licenses, we are providing an extra layer of security that will help protect our residents from identity theft and fraud.”

Michigan residents who already have an enhanced driver’s license will automatically receive one with the document number when they renew their license. Those who are applying for a new enhanced driver’s license will also receive one with the document number included.

In addition to the document number, the enhanced driver’s license also includes a radio frequency identification (RFID) chip, which allows for faster border crossings when traveling to Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. The chip contains a unique identifier that is linked to the individual’s information, making it easier for border officials to verify the traveler’s identity.

“We are always looking for ways to streamline the travel process for our residents,” said Benson. “The RFID chip on our enhanced driver’s licenses makes it easier for travelers to cross the border quickly and efficiently, while also ensuring the security of their personal information.”

Michigan residents who are interested in obtaining an enhanced driver’s license can do so by visiting their local Secretary of State branch office. In addition to providing greater security and convenience for travelers, the enhanced driver’s license can also be used as a valid form of federal identification for purposes such as boarding domestic flights and entering federal facilities.

“We are proud to offer this enhanced driver’s license to our residents,” said Benson. “Not only does it provide greater security and convenience for travelers, but it also helps protect against identity theft and fraud. We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of all Michigan residents, and the addition of the document number on our enhanced driver’s licenses is just one more step in that direction.”
