Colorado DMV to Begin Issuing Permits for Driver’s License
Denver, Colorado – As of November 1st, the Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will begin issuing permits for driver’s licenses to residents who meet certain criteria. This new program is part of an effort to streamline the process for obtaining a driver’s license and ensure that all drivers on the road are properly trained and licensed.
The Colorado permit to driver’s license program is designed to allow young drivers to gain valuable experience behind the wheel before obtaining a full driver’s license. To be eligible for a permit, applicants must be at least 16 years old and have completed a driver’s education course approved by the Colorado DMV. Additionally, applicants must pass a written exam covering traffic laws and safe driving practices.
Once a permit is obtained, drivers will be required to log a certain number of practice hours behind the wheel with a licensed adult before they can apply for a full driver’s license. This practice period is designed to ensure that new drivers are adequately prepared to navigate the roads safely and responsibly.

In addition to the new permit program, the Colorado DMV has also announced that it will be implementing other changes to the driver’s license application process. For example, starting on November 1st, all applicants for a driver’s license will be required to pass a vision test in addition to the written exam.
“We want to make sure that all drivers on the road are able to see clearly and react quickly to potential hazards,” said Johnson. “By requiring a vision test for all applicants, we can help ensure that only those who are fit to drive are granted a driver’s license.”
The Colorado DMV is also working to make the driver’s license application process more convenient for residents. In addition to visiting a DMV office in person, applicants will now have the option to complete the written exam online from the comfort of their own homes.
“We understand that visiting a DMV office can be a time-consuming and frustrating experience,” said Johnson. “By offering the option to complete the written exam online, we hope to make the process more convenient for residents and reduce waiting times at our offices.”
