Arizona Teen Drivers Face New Restrictions with Under 21 Driver’s License
PHOENIX, AZ- Over the past few years, Arizona has seen an uptick in the number of accidents involving teen drivers under the age of 21. In an effort to curb these alarming statistics, the Arizona Department of Transportation has implemented new restrictions for drivers under 21 holding an Arizona driver’s license.
Starting January 1st, 2022, all new drivers under the age of 21 will be required to adhere to the following restrictions:
– No driving between the hours of 10 pm and 5 am unless accompanied by a licensed driver over the age of 21.
– No more than one passenger under the age of 21 is allowed in the vehicle unless accompanied by a licensed driver over the age of 21.
– No cell phone use while driving, including hands-free devices.
These new restrictions are aimed at reducing the number of accidents involving teen drivers, as well as promoting safer driving habits among young motorists. According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, teen drivers are three times more likely to be involved in a fatal crash than drivers over the age of 21.
“We believe that these new restrictions will help to promote safer driving habits among our young motorists,” said a spokesperson for the Arizona Department of Transportation. “By limiting the distractions and risks associated with driving, we hope to see a decrease in the number of accidents involving teen drivers.”
While some teen drivers may view these restrictions as an inconvenience, others see them as a necessary step towards improving road safety. “I think it’s important for young drivers to recognize the risks associated with driving, especially at a young age,” said Sarah, a 19-year-old driver from Phoenix. “These restrictions may seem strict, but they are ultimately for our own safety.”
In addition to the new restrictions, the Arizona Department of Transportation is also encouraging parents to take an active role in teaching their teen drivers safe driving habits. This includes setting a good example behind the wheel, as well as monitoring their teen’s driving behavior.
“We can’t stress enough the importance of parental involvement when it comes to teen driving,” said the spokesperson for the Arizona Department of Transportation. “By setting a good example and providing guidance and support, parents can help their teen drivers become safe and responsible motorists.”
