Hawaii Introduces AAA International Driver’s License Program
In an effort to make driving in Hawaii more accessible to tourists from around the world, the state of Hawaii has partnered with AAA to introduce an international driver’s license program. This new program will allow visitors from foreign countries to easily obtain a temporary driver’s license that is recognized in the state of Hawaii.
The international driver’s license program is available through AAA Hawaii offices, as well as online. Tourists can apply for the international driver’s license before their trip to Hawaii, making it easier for them to navigate the beautiful islands without having to worry about the complexities of local driving laws and regulations.
“We are excited to partner with AAA to offer this convenient and accessible option for visitors to Hawaii,” said Governor David Ige. “Driving in Hawaii can be a wonderful experience, and we want to make sure that all visitors have the opportunity to explore our islands safely and confidently.”
The international driver’s license program is designed to be simple and straightforward. Applicants need to provide proof of their identity and current driver’s license, as well as a small fee for processing. The international driver’s license is valid for the duration of the visitor’s stay in Hawaii, up to a maximum of 90 days.
“We are thrilled to be able to offer this service to our members and visitors to Hawaii,” said Alice Slade, President of AAA Hawaii. “We understand that navigating a new place can be intimidating, especially when it comes to driving. This program will provide peace of mind to those who want to explore all that Hawaii has to offer by car.”
In addition to providing access to a temporary driver’s license, the international driver’s license program also includes information on local driving laws and regulations in Hawaii. This information is designed to help visitors understand the rules of the road and drive safely while visiting the islands.
“We want all visitors to have a positive experience while in Hawaii, and that includes feeling comfortable and confident behind the wheel,” said Keli’i Akina, Director of the Hawaii Department of Transportation. “By partnering with AAA to offer this international driver’s license program, we are making it easier for visitors to enjoy all that Hawaii has to offer, from stunning beaches to breathtaking landscapes.”
The international driver’s license program has already received positive feedback from tourists who have used it during their visit to Hawaii. “I was a little nervous about driving in Hawaii, but getting the international driver’s license through AAA made me feel much more at ease,” said Maria Lopez, a visitor from Spain. “I was able to explore the islands without any worries, and it made my trip that much more enjoyable.”
Overall, the introduction of the international driver’s license program in Hawaii is a positive step towards making the islands more accessible to tourists from around the world. By providing a convenient and reliable option for visitors to obtain a temporary driver’s license, Hawaii is ensuring that all guests can make the most of their visit and experience everything that the islands have to offer.
