Arizona to Launch New Veteran Driver’s License Program
PHOENIX, AZ – In an effort to honor and recognize the brave men and women who have served in the United States military, the state of Arizona is set to launch a new Veteran Driver’s License program. Beginning next month, veterans in Arizona will have the option to apply for a special driver’s license that will feature a distinguished design to identify them as former members of the armed forces.
The new Veteran Driver’s License program comes as a result of a collaboration between the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) and the Arizona Department of Veterans Services (ADVS). The program aims to provide veterans with a unique form of identification that highlights their service to the country and makes it easier for them to access the benefits and services they are entitled to as veterans.
“We are proud to introduce the Veteran Driver’s License program as a way to show our appreciation for the sacrifices our veterans have made for our country,” said Arizona Governor Doug Ducey. “This special license will serve as a symbol of honor and recognition for those who have served in the military and will make it easier for them to access the resources and support they deserve.”
To apply for the Veteran Driver’s License, veterans will need to present their DD Form 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, or other valid military identification at any Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) office. Once approved, veterans can choose to have their new license issued with a special veterans designation, such as a flag or emblem, to distinguish it from a standard driver’s license.
The Veteran Driver’s License program is open to all honorably discharged veterans, regardless of when or where they served in the military. Veterans who apply for the special license will not be required to pay any additional fees beyond the standard driver’s license renewal or replacement fees.
“Veterans have made immense sacrifices to protect our freedoms, and it is our duty to honor and support them in any way we can,” said Arizona Department of Veterans Services Director Wanda Wright. “The Veteran Driver’s License program is a small but meaningful gesture to show our gratitude and respect for the men and women who have served our country.”
The launch of the Veteran Driver’s License program has been met with enthusiastic support from veterans across Arizona. Many veterans have expressed their appreciation for the program and the recognition it provides for their service.
“I think the Veteran Driver’s License is a great idea,” said Army veteran John Smith. “It’s a simple but powerful way to acknowledge the sacrifices we’ve made and the service we’ve given to our country. I’ll definitely be applying for one as soon as it’s available.”
The Arizona Department of Transportation expects a high demand for the Veteran Driver’s License program and has made preparations to accommodate the increased interest. Additional staff will be assigned to MVD offices to process applications, and extended hours may be offered to accommodate veterans’ schedules.
“We are committed to providing the best possible service to our veterans,” said ADOT Director John Halikowski. “We understand the importance of honoring and recognizing their service, and we are dedicated to ensuring that the Veteran Driver’s License program is a success.”
The launch of the Veteran Driver’s License program is part of Arizona’s ongoing efforts to support and honor its veterans. The state has implemented various programs and initiatives to assist veterans in accessing education, employment, healthcare, and other benefits.
“We are proud to be a veteran-friendly state that values the contributions and sacrifices of our veterans,” said Governor Ducey. “The Veteran Driver’s License program is just one of the many ways we are working to support and honor our veterans, and we will continue to do everything we can to ensure they receive the respect and care they deserve.”
The Veteran Driver’s License program will officially launch on November 11th, Veterans Day, and will be available at all Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division offices statewide.
