California DMV unveils new veterans driver’s license

California veterans can now show off their military service with a special driver’s license issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles. The new veterans driver’s license features a design showcasing the American flag and the symbol of the branch of the military in which the veteran served.

The DMV collaborated with the California Department of Veterans Affairs to create the new veterans driver’s license, which is available to any honorably discharged military veteran living in California. To obtain the special license, veterans must provide proof of their military service, such as a DD214 form or a Veterans Administration ID card, when applying for a new or renewed driver’s license.

“We are proud to offer this special veterans driver’s license to honor the men and women who have served our country in the military,” said DMV Director, Steve Gordon. “This new license is a small but meaningful way to recognize and thank our veterans for their dedicated service and sacrifices.”

The new veterans driver’s license is just one of several initiatives by the California DMV to offer special licenses to various groups, including firefighters, law enforcement officers, and organ donors. The DMV hopes that the new veterans driver’s license will help raise awareness of the contributions and sacrifices made by veterans in service to our country.

Veterans who already hold a standard California driver’s license can apply for the new veterans driver’s license by visiting their local DMV office and providing the required proof of military service. There is no additional fee to obtain the special veterans driver’s license, which will be valid for the same period as a regular driver’s license.

The new veterans driver’s license is part of a broader effort by the California DMV to improve services for veterans and make it easier for them to access benefits and resources. In addition to the special license, the DMV offers a number of programs and services specifically for veterans, including designated veterans service centers at several DMV offices across the state.

“We are committed to supporting our veterans and providing them with the recognition and resources they deserve,” said DMV Director Steve Gordon. “The new veterans driver’s license is just one way we are working to honor and serve those who have served our country.”

The DMV is also partnering with veterans organizations and community groups to spread the word about the new veterans driver’s license and encourage veterans to take advantage of this opportunity to show their military service with pride.

“I think it’s great that the DMV is offering a special driver’s license for veterans,” said John Smith, a Navy veteran from Sacramento. “It’s a small gesture, but it means a lot to know that our service is being recognized and appreciated.”

The new veterans driver’s license is now available at all DMV offices across California. Veterans interested in obtaining the special license are encouraged to visit their local DMV office for more information and to apply for their new veterans driver’s license.

Overall, the new veterans driver’s license is a welcome addition to the California DMV’s lineup of special license offerings, providing veterans with a unique way to display their military service and pride in serving our country. With this new initiative, the DMV is sending a clear message that the sacrifices and contributions of our veterans are valued and honored.
