In a world where fame and fortune often go hand in hand, it’s not uncommon for celebrities to be chauffeured around in luxury cars, whisked from one glamorous event to the next without a care in the world. However, there are some stars who have chosen to forego the convenience of having a driver’s license, opting instead to rely on others for transportation.
One such celebrity is Jennifer Lawrence, the Oscar-winning actress known for her roles in films such as “Silver Linings Playbook” and “The Hunger Games.” Despite her A-list status, Lawrence has never obtained a driver’s license, preferring to use public transportation or rely on friends and family to get around.
“I just never really saw the need to get my license,” Lawrence said in a recent interview. “I always had people willing to drive me wherever I needed to go, so it just never seemed like a priority.”
Lawrence is not alone in her decision to forego a driver’s license. Other celebrities, such as comedian Tina Fey and singer Pharrell Williams, have also chosen to eschew driving in favor of alternative modes of transportation.
For Fey, who rose to fame as a cast member on “Saturday Night Live” and went on to create and star in the hit sitcom “30 Rock,” the decision not to drive was a practical one.
“I live in New York City, where driving is more of a hassle than anything else,” Fey said. “I can get pretty much anywhere I need to go using the subway or a taxi, so why bother with the headache of owning a car?”
Williams, best known for his infectious hit song “Happy,” has also opted to forgo a driver’s license, despite his status as a music industry heavyweight.
“I’ve always been more interested in biking or taking the bus than driving myself around,” Williams said. “It’s just not something that has ever been a priority for me.”
While some celebrities choose not to drive out of convenience or personal preference, others have more practical reasons for not obtaining a driver’s license.
Take actress Scarlett Johansson, for example. The “Avengers” star, who has been a fixture in Hollywood for over two decades, has never learned to drive due to a fear of getting behind the wheel.
“I’ve always been terrified of driving,” Johansson said. “I remember trying to learn when I was younger, but I just couldn’t shake the fear. I’m much more comfortable letting someone else do the driving.”
Johansson is far from alone in her fear of driving. Actress and comedian Amy Schumer has also cited a fear of driving as the reason why she has never obtained a driver’s license.
“I had a bad experience when I was younger that really turned me off to driving,” Schumer said. “I tried to learn a few times, but I just couldn’t shake the anxiety. It’s something that I would like to overcome one day, but for now, I’m happy to let someone else take the wheel.”
While some celebrities may have personal reasons for not obtaining a driver’s license, others simply see no need for one in their day-to-day lives.
Take filmmaker Quentin Tarantino, for example. The “Pulp Fiction” director, known for his unique storytelling style and love of all things cinematic, has never bothered to learn how to drive.
“I’ve always been more interested in movies than cars,” Tarantino said. “I live in Los Angeles, where driving is practically a way of life, but I’ve always managed to get by without a license. I have friends who are more than happy to give me a ride when I need one.”
Similarly, actor and director Seth Rogen has also never obtained a driver’s license, despite his successful career in Hollywood.
“I’ve just never had the desire to learn how to drive,” Rogen said. “I’ve always been able to get around using other methods, so it’s never been a priority for me. Plus, I have a few friends who are more than willing to chauffeur me around when I need them to.”
While it may seem surprising that some of the biggest stars in Hollywood have chosen not to obtain a driver’s license, their reasons for doing so are as varied as their personalities. Whether it’s due to convenience, fear, or simply a lack of interest, these celebrities have found ways to navigate the world without ever having to sit behind the wheel. And with their fame and fortune, it’s safe to say that they won’t be hitching a ride with just anyone anytime soon.
