Michigan residents who need to update their driver’s license with a change of address will soon have a new option available to them. The Michigan Secretary of State’s office has announced a new online service that will allow residents to update their address on their driver’s license without having to visit a Secretary of State branch office in person.
The new online service is part of the Secretary of State’s ongoing efforts to modernize and streamline the process of updating driver’s license information. Michigan residents can now log on to the Secretary of State’s website and easily update their address with just a few clicks.
“We are always looking for ways to make it easier and more convenient for our residents to update their driver’s license information,” said Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson. “With this new online service, residents can quickly and easily update their address without having to make a trip to a branch office. To use the new online service, residents will need to have their current driver’s license handy, as well as a valid email address and a credit or debit card for payment. The cost to update address information online is the same as it would be if done in person at a branch office.
Once residents have updated their address online, they will receive a temporary paper license in the mail within two weeks. The permanent updated driver’s license will then be mailed to the new address within 30 days.
In addition to the new online service, Michigan residents will still have the option to update their address in person at a Secretary of State branch office if they prefer. Branch offices are open Monday through Friday and some Saturdays for those who wish to update their information in person.
