Citrus County Driver’s License Office Faces Backlog Amid Pandemic

Citrus County Tax Collector, Nancy Lewis, who oversees the Driver’s License Office, acknowledged the difficulties the office has been facing but reassured residents that they are doing everything they can to address the backlog.

“We understand the frustration and stress that many residents are feeling right now, and we want to assure them that we are working diligently to process applications and renewals as quickly as possible,” Lewis said. “We ask for residents’ patience and understanding during this challenging time as we navigate the ongoing effects of the pandemic on our operations.”

In response to the backlog, the office has been exploring new ways to streamline the process and improve efficiency. They have been utilizing online services for certain transactions, such as address changes or license renewals, to help reduce the number of in-person appointments needed. They have also been considering hiring additional staff to help alleviate the workload and reduce wait times for appointments.

Despite the challenges, residents are hopeful that the situation will improve in the coming months as the office continues to adapt to the new normal brought on by the pandemic.
