Texas Department of Public Safety Introduces New Class M Driver’s License

Austin, TX – In a move aimed at improving safety and convenience for motorcyclists in the Lone Star State, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has introduced a new Class M driver’s license. This new license category is specifically designed for individuals who wish to operate motorcycles, scooters, and other two-wheeled vehicles on Texas roads.

The Class M driver’s license is an important step forward for motorcyclists in Texas, as it provides them with a dedicated license category that acknowledges the unique skills and responsibilities required to safely operate a motorcycle. By obtaining a Class M license, motorcyclists will be able to clearly demonstrate their proficiency in riding a motorcycle, as well as their knowledge of Texas traffic laws and regulations.

“We are excited to introduce the new Class M driver’s license in Texas,” said DPS Commissioner Roosevelt Baine. “This license category will help ensure that motorcyclists have the necessary skills and knowledge to safely navigate our state’s roadways. By obtaining a Class M license, motorcyclists will be better equipped to protect themselves and others while enjoying the thrill of riding a motorcycle.”

To obtain a Class M driver’s license in Texas, individuals must meet certain requirements, including passing a written exam and a motorcycle skills test. Additionally, individuals who already hold a Class A, B, or C driver’s license may be eligible to add a Class M endorsement to their existing license by passing a written exam.

“We encourage all motorcyclists in Texas to consider obtaining a Class M driver’s license,” said Commissioner Baine. “Whether you are a seasoned rider or a novice, obtaining a Class M license will help keep you safe on the road and ensure that you are in compliance with Texas laws and regulations.”

In addition to the introduction of the Class M driver’s license, the DPS has also launched a new motorcycle safety awareness campaign aimed at educating motorcyclists and other drivers about the importance of sharing the road safely. This campaign includes educational materials, safety tips, and training resources for motorcyclists, as well as increased enforcement efforts to crack down on dangerous driving behaviors.

“We are committed to improving motorcycle safety in Texas,” said Commissioner Baine. “By introducing the Class M driver’s license and launching our motorcycle safety awareness campaign, we are taking proactive steps to protect motorcyclists and reduce the number of motorcycle-related accidents on our roads. We urge all motorcyclists and other drivers to do their part to help keep Texas roads safe for everyone.”

Motorcyclists in Texas who are interested in obtaining a Class M driver’s license are encouraged to visit their local DPS office or the DPS website for more information on the requirements and application process. By obtaining a Class M license, motorcyclists can enhance their skills, increase their safety on the road, and enjoy the freedom of riding a motorcycle in the Lone Star State.
