Virginia DMV Sees Surge in Driver’s License Applications Amid Pandemic
The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has reported a significant increase in driver’s license applications since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. “I turned 16 during the pandemic, and all of my plans for getting my driver’s license were put on hold,” said Sarah Johnson, a high school student from Fairfax. “Now that things are starting to open up again, I’m eager to get my license so I can have more freedom to go out with my friends and do things on my own.”
The surge in driver’s license applications has led to longer wait times at DMV offices across Virginia. Many applicants have reported waiting several weeks for appointments and experiencing delays in getting their licenses processed.
“I had to wait over a month for an appointment at the DMV, and then it took another two weeks for them to process my application,” said Maria Garcia, a resident of Arlington. “It was frustrating to have to wait so long, but I understand that they are dealing with a high volume of applications right now.”
