North Carolina does not currently offer an Enhanced Driver’s License (EDL) option to its residents. Despite the increasing popularity of EDLs in several states across the country, North Carolina has chosen not to implement this program.
Enhanced Driver’s Licenses are a form of identification that can be used for both driving and crossing international borders. In addition to a passport, residents can also apply for a Trusted Traveler Program such as Global Entry or NEXUS, which offer expedited processing when crossing international borders. These programs require a thorough background check and in-person interview, but they can provide a convenient and efficient way to travel internationally without an EDL.
While North Carolina may not offer an Enhanced Driver’s License option, there are still plenty of ways for residents to obtain the necessary identification for international travel. Whether it’s through a passport, a Trusted Traveler Program, or another form of identification, there are options available to ensure that residents can travel safely and securely across borders.
As technology continues to evolve and security measures become more advanced, it’s possible that North Carolina may reconsider its decision not to offer an EDL option in the future. In the meantime, residents can explore alternative forms of identification to meet their travel needs and ensure that they have the necessary documentation to cross international borders.
