Colorado DMV Sees Surge in Driver’s License Appointments as Residents Rush to Renew Following Pandemic Backlog

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has seen a significant increase in driver’s license appointment bookings. In addition to license renewals, the DMV is also seeing a surge in appointments for new drivers looking to obtain their licenses. With driving schools shut down and limited access to testing centers during the pandemic, many young adults and first-time drivers were unable to get their licenses. Now that restrictions have been lifted, there has been a rush of new drivers seeking to take their tests and get on the road.

“I turned 16 during the pandemic, so I wasn’t able to get my license right away like all my friends,” said high school student Jake Thompson. “I finally have an appointment scheduled for next month, and I couldn’t be more excited. It’s been a long time coming, but I’m ready to finally get my license and start driving.”

As the DMV works to clear the backlog of appointments, they are encouraging residents to book their appointments online to help streamline the process. With the added staff and extended hours, they are hopeful that they will be able to get everyone in as quickly as possible.

“We know that waiting for an appointment can be frustrating, but we ask for everyone’s patience as we work through this backlog,” said Johnson. “We’re doing everything we can to accommodate everyone and get them in as soon as possible.”

For those still waiting for an appointment, the DMV recommends checking their website regularly for any available slots or cancellations. They are also encouraging residents to gather all necessary paperwork and documentation ahead of time to help expedite the process once they arrive at the DMV.

In the meantime, Colorado residents are urged to be patient and understanding as the DMV works to get through the backlog of appointments. With the added staff and extended hours, they are confident that they will be able to accommodate everyone in a timely manner.
