California DMV Issues Real ID Driver’s Licenses to Comply with Federal Regulations
As of October 1, 2020, California residents will need a Real ID-compliant driver’s license or identification card to board domestic flights or enter secure federal facilities. In response to this deadline, the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has started issuing Real ID driver’s licenses and identification cards to residents who wish to upgrade their current form of identification.
The Real ID Act was passed by Congress in 2005 in response to recommendations from the 9/11 Commission. The Act establishes minimum security standards for state-issued driver’s licenses and identification cards.
