Duval County residents will soon have to renew their driver’s licenses as the county has announced new guidelines for license renewal. The new rules come as the county aims to streamline the process and make it easier for residents to renew their licenses on time.
Starting next month, Duval County residents will be required to renew their driver’s licenses every eight years. This is a change from the previous requirement of renewing it every six years. The county hopes that by extending the renewal period, it will reduce the number of residents who let their licenses expire.
“We want to make sure that all drivers in Duval County have valid and up-to-date licenses,” said County Executive John Smith. “By extending the renewal period, we hope to make the process more convenient for residents.”
In addition to extending the renewal period, the county is also making changes to the renewal process itself. Residents will now be able to renew their licenses online, through the county’s website. Residents who fail to renew their licenses by the expiration date will face a fine. The amount of the fine will vary depending on how long the license has been expired. Residents who let their licenses expire for more than a year will also be required to retake the written and driving exams.
“We want to encourage residents to renew their licenses on time,” said Smith. “By imposing fines for expired licenses, we hope to incentivize residents to renew before it’s too late.”
