Driver’s License Illinois Replacement

Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White announced today a new initiative aimed at streamlining the replacement process for lost or stolen driver’s licenses in the state. The program, known as “Express Replacement,” will allow drivers to quickly and easily obtain a new license without having to visit a Secretary of State office in person.

Under the new program, Illinois residents will be able to request a replacement license online through the Secretary of State’s website. Eligible drivers must have a valid Illinois driver’s license that is either lost or stolen. The online process will require drivers to verify their identity and provide certain personal information, such as their address, date of birth, and social security number.

Once the online request is submitted, drivers can choose to have their replacement license mailed to their home address or opt for expedited shipping for an additional fee. The new license will be printed and mailed within 5-7 business days of the request being processed.

Secretary White emphasized that the new program is designed to make the replacement process more convenient for Illinois residents. “Losing your driver’s license can be a major hassle, and we want to make it as easy as possible for drivers to get a replacement,” said White. “With the Express Replacement program, drivers can quickly and easily request a new license online without having to take time out of their day to visit a Secretary of State office.”

In addition to the online option, drivers will still have the ability to obtain a replacement license in person at a Secretary of State office if they prefer. However, officials are encouraging drivers to take advantage of the new online process to save time and avoid waiting in line.

The cost of a replacement license through the Express Replacement program will be the same as obtaining a replacement in person at a Secretary of State office. The fee for a standard replacement license is $5, while expedited shipping will cost an additional $20.

The implementation of the Express Replacement program comes as part of Secretary White’s ongoing efforts to modernize and improve the services offered by the Secretary of State’s office. In recent years, the office has expanded online services and digital options for residents, including renewing vehicle registrations, scheduling appointments, and accessing driving records.

Illinois residents who have lost or had their driver’s license stolen can visit the Secretary of State’s website to request a replacement license through the new Express Replacement program. The online process is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, making it convenient for drivers to request a replacement at any time.

Overall, the new Express Replacement program is expected to streamline the process for replacing lost or stolen driver’s licenses in Illinois, providing drivers with a quick and convenient option for obtaining a new license without having to visit a Secretary of State office in person. With the program now in effect, Illinois residents can easily request a replacement license online and have their new license mailed directly to their home address – all within a matter of days.
