New South Carolina Driver’s License

South Carolina to Issue New Driver’s Licenses with Enhanced Security Features

Columbia, SC – The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV) announced today that they will be rolling out a new and improved driver’s license with enhanced security features.

The new driver’s license will feature a durable polycarbonate material that is tamper-resistant and harder to duplicate. This will help prevent forgery and fraudulent use of driver’s licenses, ultimately increasing overall security for residents in the state.

In addition to the new material, the driver’s license will also feature a laser-engraved primary portrait and a secondary smaller ghost portrait. This will make it easier for law enforcement officers to verify the authenticity of the license and ensure that the person presenting it is the rightful owner.

“We are constantly looking for ways to improve the security of our driver’s licenses and protect the identity of our residents,” said SCDMV Director Kevin Shwedo. “This new license is a step in the right direction towards preventing identity theft and other fraudulent activities.”

The new driver’s license will also include other security features such as ultraviolet ink, microprinting, and a unique barcode that can be scanned to access additional information about the license holder.

In addition to the security enhancements, the new driver’s license will also feature a modern and updated design. The front of the license will now have a South Carolina state flag hologram, a gold star indicating Real ID compliance, and a raised text of “SOUTH CAROLINA” at the top.

“We wanted to create a driver’s license that not only is more secure but also aesthetically pleasing,” said Shwedo. “We believe that the new design will make it easier for residents to quickly identify a legitimate South Carolina driver’s license.”

Residents will begin receiving the new driver’s license when they renew their existing license or apply for a new one. The rollout will be gradual, with all residents expected to have the new license by the end of the year.

“We understand that this process may take some time, but the safety and security of our residents are our top priority,” said Shwedo. “We appreciate the patience and cooperation of all South Carolina residents as we work to implement these changes.”

The cost of the new driver’s license will remain the same as the previous version, with standard fees applying for renewal and replacement.

Overall, the introduction of the new driver’s license with enhanced security features is a positive step towards preventing identity theft and other fraudulent activities in the state. Residents can rest assured that their personal information and identity are being protected with this new and improved form of identification.
