South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV) Announces New Driver’s License Address Change Process
Columbia, SC – The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV) has announced a new process for changing the address on driver’s licenses. Starting August 1, 2021, South Carolina residents will be able to update their address on their driver’s licenses online or through the mail, without having to visit the SCDMV in person.
This new process comes as a response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which has necessitated changes in how government services are delivered. By allowing address changes to be done remotely, the SCDMV aims to make it easier for residents to keep their information up to date, while also minimizing in-person visits to SCDMV offices.
“We understand that many South Carolina residents are still hesitant to visit public places due to the pandemic,” said SCDMV Director Kevin Shwedo. “That’s why we want to make it as easy as possible for them to update their information without having to come in person. This new process will help ensure that our residents can continue to access essential services while staying safe.”
To change the address on their driver’s licenses online, residents simply have to visit the SCDMV website and log into their account. From there, they can update their address and pay the necessary fees using a credit or debit card. The new driver’s license will then be mailed to the address on file within 7-10 business days.
For those who prefer to update their address through the mail, the SCDMV has provided a printable form on their website. Residents can fill out the form, attach a copy of their current driver’s license, and mail it to the address listed on the form. Once the form is processed, the new driver’s license will be sent to the address on file.
This new process has been met with positive feedback from South Carolina residents, who appreciate the convenience and flexibility it offers. “I recently moved to a new address and was dreading having to go to the DMV to update my license,” said Mary Johnson, a resident of Charleston. “But being able to do it online was so easy and saved me a lot of time.
